Radial Tip Fans
Rugged Performance For Dirty Air Applications
Radial tip centrifugal fans are engineered to bridge the gap between high-efficiency backward inclined fans and ultra-robust radial bladed designs.
By combining the aerodynamic advantages of backward inclined blades with the durability and packing resistance of radial blades, radial tip fans deliver reliable performance in dirty air applications with light concentrations of solids.
Industrial Fan Systems (IFS) radial tip centrifugal fans are purpose-built for demanding industrial environments where efficiency, durability, and resistance to material buildup are equally important. Designed and tested to international standards, the IFS-RT range provides a longer-life alternative to traditional light-duty exhausters across heavy-duty process and ventilation systems.
Radial Tip Centrifugal Fans – Rugged Performance for Dirty Air Applications
What Is a Radial Tip Fan?
A radial tip centrifugal fan uses blades that extend radially at the outer edge while retaining backward inclined characteristics closer to the hub. This hybrid blade geometry allows the fan to achieve improved efficiency over standard radial bladed fans while maintaining excellent resistance to fouling, vibration, and material packing.
Radial tip fans are commonly selected for dirty, dusty, or wet air streams where backward inclined or airfoil fans may suffer from performance degradation, but where full radial bladed or paddle wheel designs are unnecessary.
Why Choose a Radial Tip Fan?
Radial tip centrifugal fans are selected when applications require a balance of efficiency, pressure capability, and durability in contaminated environments.
Advantages
Combined Efficiency & Durability: Higher efficiency than radial bladed fans with superior robustness compared to backward inclined designs.
Packing Resistant Design: Maintains balance and performance in dusty or wet air streams.
Moderate to High Pressure Capability: Suitable for demanding ventilation and process systems.
Rugged Industrial Construction: Designed for continuous duty in harsh operating conditions.
Extended Service Life: Reduced maintenance and downtime compared to light-duty exhausters.
Features & Engineering Benefits
Radial Tip Impeller Design: The hybrid blade profile combines radial strength at the blade tips with backward inclined aerodynamic characteristics, delivering reliable performance in dirty air applications with light concentrations of solids.
Energy-Efficient Operation in Contaminated Air: Unlike standard radial designs, radial tip fans retain improved efficiency while handling contaminated airflows, reducing energy consumption and operating costs.
Packing & Fouling Resistance: The impeller geometry resists material buildup and vibration, ensuring stable operation in dusty and moisture-laden environments.
Heavy-Duty Construction: Manufactured from carbon steel, stainless steel, or alloy materials, IFS radial tip fans can be supplied with custom coatings for corrosive or high-temperature applications up to 600 °C or higher.
Flexible Drive & Mounting Options: Available in direct drive or belt drive configurations with horizontal or vertical mounting arrangements to suit installation constraints.
